SPH calls for “The Pitch” and launches new award for advertising agencies

Winning advertising agency will clinch the Golden Cleaver Award

Singapore, 23 February, 2011 – Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) is launching The Pitch - a new “reality” contest that challenges advertising agencies to pull out all stops and come out with their strategic and creative best. At stake are over $500,000 worth of cash and prizes. The winning advertising agency will be rewarded with $20,000 in cash and $250,000 worth of media credits from SPH, as well as the honour of hoisting the Golden Cleaver Award.

Agencies that are interested to participate in The Pitch should login to www.asiaone.com/thepitch for more information and register themselves for a briefing on The Pitch by 9 March 2011. The briefing will be held on 11 March at the Auditorium at SPH News Centre. After the briefing, agencies can download the official entry form from the same website.

Each team must include one Account Director or Strategic Planner, one Creative Director and one Media Director. They will be tasked with conceptualising an actual branding campaign for a brand that will be announced at a later date. This campaign must effectively incorporate a well thought-through cross-media strategy that satisfies multiple touch-point objectives. There is no limit to the number of teams each agency can send. The closing date for submission is 30 March 2011.

The Pitch aims to raise the bar with regard to integrated media initiatives. Mr Geoff Tan, SPH's Senior Vice-President and Head of Strategic Marketing, said: “Instead of just combining various media options to deliver a cross-media activation, we want to challenge our agency friends to bring their most potent ideas to the table and to seamlessly weave these together to form a powerful, connected and engaging campaign. It is all about delivering solutions rather than just assembling inventory.”

From print, broadcast radio, online, mobile, outdoor media to events management, SPH is already a one-stop solutions hub for advertisers and agencies. To further enhance this attribute, SPH has developed “SPH IS ON” to make its service proposition even more compelling.

SPH IS ON
"SPH IS ON" is a solutions-based cross-media ideology that brings together the most-ideal combination of media products and services to satisfy advertisers’ multiple touch-point requirements. The various media platforms owned by SPH have been grouped into six media activation "buttons", and they are:

On Print – 17 newspaper titles and more than 100 magazine titles. In addition, SPH also has its own book publishing arm, Straits Times Press and Focus Publishing.

Online – SPH's host of award-winning online platforms include AsiaOne, ST701, STOMP, omy.sg, The Straits Times Razor TV and HardwareZone.com, among others.

On Mobile – Location-based SMS services and mobile applications.

On Ground – SPH subsidiaries SPH MediaBoxOffice (SPHMBO) and Sphere Exhibits offer event and exhibition management services.

On Air Two radio stations, Radio 100.3 in Chinese and 91.3FM in English.

On Screen – SPHMBO has Singapore's largest network of digital media screens, including large outdoor LED screens.

In the radio business, SPH has an 80 per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations Radio 100.3 in Chinese and 91.3FM in English.

Events and Outdoor Advertising
SPH’s events subsidiary Sphere Exhibits organises innovative consumer and trade events and exhibitions. In addition, SPH has ventured into out-of-home (OOH) advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore’s leading Digital Out-of-Home advertising company.

Properties
SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. Its latest retail development, The Clementi Mall, started business operations in 2011. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, has also developed a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
