Singapore, 24 May 2017 - Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH) has won 3 accolades at the INMA Global Media Awards held last night (New York time) at the Harvard Club of New York.
The competition is produced by the International News Media Association (INMA) to reward excellence in media.
The INMA (International News Media Association) Global Media Awards competition received 655 entries from 196 media companies in 36 countries. Participants include newspaper media, magazine media, digital media, television media, and radio media.
Competition entries were judged in February by an international panel of 44 executives from 17 countries. Judges represented a wide range of media-related companies. The shortlisted include 115 finalists in 20 categories and two groups for global/national brands and regional/local brands, in recognition for innovation in audience, revenue, and brand development.
SPH won second place for Best Brand Awareness Campaign for "A Micro Film Entitled Pa's Expressions". The 10-minute film, Pa's Expressions, is part of a series of events aimed at creating brand awareness following Chinese flagship daily Lianhe Zaobao's (ZB) revamp in 2016. Pa's Expressions was scripted and directed by Mr Wayne Peng, a Taiwan-born commercial film director who is also a columnist with ZB. To capture the passing of time and sense of history, Mr Peng and the ZB team spent time researching and recreating the past to showcase the paper's transformations through the decades.

With SPH's credibility and its digital reach, Courts saw the potential in an integrated marketing campaign that would achieve its marketing goals. It embarked on a month long integrated content marketing campaign with BrandInsider to create online and offline buzz for its Tampines Megastore’s 10th anniversary celebration. This all-in-one solution was executed with a creative edge to help Courts cut through the online clutter and achieve its marketing goals. The Courts BrandInsider digital campaign (http://brandinsider.straitstimes.com/courts/) is centred on enhanced storytelling capability with interactive technology that showcased the retailer’s products and services. This interactive video is the first in South East Asia, which was an innovation that both SPH and Courts are proud of. Rounding up the awards was "The Animated and Interactive New Paper", which was awarded third place for Best Execution of Print Advertising. The campaign garnered an additional 20% revenue or more for animation of print ads. More readers downloaded the app to read the e-paper due to its innovative interactive and animation features. The app install base is about 40% of the number of print circulation copies. There was an increase in responses for advertisers as it is made quicker and easier for readers to response to advertisements. An average of 10% of readers on its e-paper app also contacted advertisers using these features. Print ads continue to be relevant and contribute to a significant share of revenue as more readers continue to read the print-format newspapers on mobile devices. The animation and interactivity features (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OapDJ_-jiHs&feature=youtu.be) were developed in-house and have been awarded 2 patents, a first for SPH.
