Singapore, 1 April 2009 – Come Friday (3 April 2009), a group of young urban working executives will strive to impress not their potential employers but 6 judges as they compete to be the winner of the my paper Executive Look 2009 at the grand finals of the contest, which will be held at VivoCity Central Court (Level 1).
Now in its second year, the contest is a signature event by my paper, Singapore’s first full-fledged bilingual newspaper published by leading media company Singapore Press Holdings (SPH).
The my paper Executive Look is a competitive search for a young male or female executive who best epitomises the urban working executive – smart, stylish, savvy and confident. Contestants have to be executives who are 35 years old and below and currently employed with at least 2 years of working experience. Besides providing a platform for executives to express themselves, the contest aims to enhance the contestants' profiles in the corporate world.
Registration started in January 09 and, reflecting the success of last year’s event, there were about 30% more applicants this year – a total of over 500 entries were received.
The finalists include a trader, lawyer, engineers and managers from a diverse group of companies ranging from banks, statutory boards and PR companies. The finalists, whose age range from 23 to 34 years old, had to go through various training on skincare, make-up, business etiquette and even how to do the catwalk.
As the search is for the definitive urban working executive, contestants will be not be judged solely on looks. Instead, they will be judged on their poise, charm, wit, eloquence, “EQ” (Emotional Quotient) and “OQ” (“Office Intelligence Quotient”) through various segments, including corporate-related discussions with guest moderator Mr Chong Chee Kin, the News Editor of my paper (English).
Miss Jill Alphonso, Entertainment & Lifestyle Editor of my paper (English), said: “All the finalists have what it takes to be the winner of my paper Executive Look. But the last man (or woman) standing will be the one who stays cool and articulates his or her thoughts well while being put on the spot. Ultimately, we're looking for someone who has the potential to make a real difference in the work force, which means contestants really have to shine under pressure.”
The top 3 contestants will be unveiled at the grand finals at VivoCity Central Court (Level 1), and the grand winner will walk away with $10,000 cash and $500 worth of Bobbi Brown products. The finalist who received the highest number of votes from readers of my paper via an online voting contest from 23 March 2009 on http://executivelook.mypaper.sg, will also clinch the Readers’ Choice Award. Voting ends on 2 April 2009, 3pm.
Mr Goh Sin Teck, Consulting Editor of my paper (Chinese), said: "The increased number of applicants this year is a reflection of the growing number of people who read my paper, especially young bilingual executives. my paper will continue to organise events such as my paper Executive Look to engage our readers."
