Singapore, February 29, 2012 – The search for Asia’s start-up and entrepreneur stars reaches fever pitch as the inaugural DEMO Asia 2012 kicks off today at the Matrix@Biopolis in Singapore. Over 500 startups, entrepreneurs, global venture capitalists, angel investors, DEMO alumni, industry experts, media and veterans from all over Asia and the world will come together in this three-day event.

A total of 44 start-ups and 28 innovators in the cloud and enterprise, web, social and media, consumer, mobile as well as innovative technologies will be given six minutes to pitch their products sans any visual aids and present prototypes in the 90-second Alpha pitch on the DEMO stage, respectively. These start-ups have been pre-selected from a series of audition sessions held from November 2011 to January 2012 as well as participated in the DEMO Asia Coaching programme.
Industry veterans and experts lead DEMO Asia 2012’s speaker line-up which includes: Jeff Clavier, founder of SoftTech VC; Adeo Ressi, Founding Member of TheFunded.com; Robert Kim, Director (Consumer Infocomm), Infocomm Development Authority, Singapore; Philip Lim Feng, Chief Executive Officer of Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd, and Michael Yap, Deputy CEO and Executive Director of Interactive Digital Media Programme Office at MDA. The event will also bring together a stellar panel from different industries consisting of Tudou.com, Google Southeast Asia, Telekom Malaysia Research & Development, Amazon Web Services, Zero2IPO, Oracle, among others.

Unique to DEMO, the DEMO platform provides all DEMO companies the ability to launch at any other DEMO conference and then participate for free as a showcase company at one other international DEMO event of their choice in China, US ,Brazil and now in Singapore within the same year. A number of DEMO alumni start-ups from previous DEMO events will participate in this year’s event. Likewise, this year’s DEMO Asia participants will have the same opportunity to showcase in future DEMO events across the globe. The DEMO showcase features an exhibition area where industry peers from around the world can also meet, network, research and form partnerships with each other.
To cap the event and recognize outstanding start-ups and entrepreneurs, DEMO Asia will award winners of the DEMO Asia People’s Choice Award and DEMOguru Award on March 2nd. Winner of DEMO Asia People’s Choice Award will receive USD$20,000 three-month accelerator package that provides the company access to top notch training, networking events, introductions to VCs and investors, as well as guaranteed pitching slot at the Plug & Play Expo. In addition, the awardee will get the coveted opportunity to present at DEMO USA and generate buzz from Demo.com, valued at US$ 200,000 in media exposure.
DEMOguru is awarded to the most outstanding presentation at DEMO Asia. Chosen by a group of judges for their style, passion, clarity and sometimes for their sheer outlandishness, these DEMOgurus have a unique ability to deliver strong product presentations and market positioning to products’ unique features and differentiators in a most interesting and engaging fashion. Outstanding DEMO gurus will also receive tablets from Lenovo.
