Singapore, 15 February 2012 — On 19 February (Sunday), 2,300 runners will take on Singapore’s most grueling urban obstacle race. Designed to be significantly tougher than last year’s challenge, the Men's Health Urbanathlon 2012 features nine new and upgraded obstacles along a 14km course that runs through the heart of the island’s central business district.
Some of the toughest obstacles along the 14km route include: Corporate Ladder, where runners will have to ascend and descend the viewing gallery of The Float@Marina Bay; Monkey Business, where participants will have to swing across four sets of monkey bars placed side by side – laterally, instead of longitudinally; and Down And Dirty, the final obstacle consisting of two skip tanks – one filled with mud, and the other with water. This year’s race also includes a new corporate category. More than 90 corporate teams, each comprising three to five runners, will be slugging it out for the grand prize worth up to S$10,000.
In the individual category, outstanding prizes await the top five runners, with the champion walking away with S$10,000 worth of products and services.
On top of that, every participant will receive a race pack worth over S$300.
Running for a cause
In a display of courage and tenacity, and to help raise the awareness of disabled athletes in Singapore, two disabled athletes – Adam Kamis (“One-arm Runner”) and Shariff Abdullah (“Singapore Blade Runner”) – will be taking on the Urbanathlon for the first time.
Other celebrities taking part in the race are ex-Formula One race car driver Alex Yoong and award-winning author Neil Humphreys.

Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Minister of State for Trade and Industry and National Development, and Member of Parliament for East Coast GRC, will be present as Guest of Honour for this event.
The excitement will continue after the race at the Start/Finish Point, where participants can collect their finishers’ T-shirt and medal, cool down and wash up, witness the prize presentation, help themselves to complimentary beer and food, recover with sports massage and take home a commemorative snapshot.
